Environmental parameters that obtained by sensors are important basis for crop growth. According the environment requirements for crop growth, the sensing signals can feed back to relative controllers to drive the relevant equipment. This can help to make the benefits of real-time monitoring.
In this study, environmental parameters, such as temperature, humidity and soil humidity of a mini-farm, were monitored and transmitted by simple sensors. Transmitting sensors compose of three components: sensors, controllers, and transmitter. Sensors are responsible for sensing environmental parameters and connect to single-chip micro-controllers (Arduino) to get real-time environmental sensing data. Controllers send the sensing signals to the back-end server by way of wireless network (Wi-Fi) and decide which relevant module devices to driven according to the sensing value. For example, driving fans or water mist equipment to improve the temperature and humidity of the growing environment of crops. The back-end server has a database module that can collect data, display monitoring results on the web for planters to statistics, and analyze crop growth.
