[英文摘要] :
English reading and writing are two critical skills for EFL learners, yet many EFL learners find them challenging and have difficulty mastering the two skills. This paper reports the writer’s experience of and reflections on participating in an online reading club (OLRC-3) as a required assignment of a doctoral course in English reading in southern Taiwan. Taking part in OLRC-3 benefited the writer and the other members in the following aspects: the ability to understand the reading content with more in-depth insights and from varied perspectives, the opportunity to learn the club members’ thoughts and knowledge resulting from their personal life experience, and finally a way to reconstruct and co-construct meanings of the reading content. Then, it is argued that reading and writing reinforce each other in language learning, and joining an online reading club is an effective and efficient way to help learners develop their ability in reading and writing simultaneously. Finally, three suggestions regarding the administration of an online reading club are provided.
Keywords: language learning, reading, writing, EFL, online reading club, reading comprehension.
