[摘要] :
中英文適讀性公式(readability formulas)可以幫助教師客觀判斷教材難易,決定是否用在某個年級教學。線上可使用的工具,英文有微軟Office軟體中提供的Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level Test功能,中文則教師可使用中文文章適讀性線上分析系統。
本研究試著以線上工具對國三及高一之中英文課文進行探討,除了可以了解教材難易,還可以檢視是否有銜接的問題。研究之中文採用公式開發時的數據,英文則以現行課文取樣。使用線上公式,先求出每則課文的適讀年級值,再進行比較。
研究發現,中文教材適讀年級值與實際年級值無差異,銜接也良好。英文教材(L2)實際9及10年級的適讀年級值為母語(L2)之4至6年級,國中升高中無顯著差異,但高一下顯著比高一上難,差約兩個年級。

Both Chinese and English Readability formulas may help teachers objectively examine the readability of textual materials. Some online tools are available to determine reading levels. In English, Microsoft Office provides a Flesch-Kincaid grade level test in its word proofing function. In Chinese, teachers may use the Chinese Readability Online System.
This research aimed to investigate the readability of both Chinese and English language textbooks of grades 9 and 10 with use of online tools. It gathered information to understand the readability status of each grade. With this information researchers might also find out if there was a gap between junior and senior high school language textual materials. Research data in Chinese constituted the original data when the formula was developed. In English, a company version sample was drawn from current textbooks.
Research found that in Chinese textbooks the reading levels matched grading levels. As a result, the textbooks were bridged well between junior and senior high schools. In English textbooks, there was also no gap between junior and senior schools. Reading grades 9 and 10 in L2 corresponded to grades 4 to 6 in L1. However, a significant gap was found between the two semesters using grade 10 texts. This difference was about 2 grades.
