[英文摘要] :
The belief of “learning by doing” (Dewey, 1938) and “education as a predictor” (Putnam, 1999) enhanced the enthusiastic discussions for service learning from its implementation and contribution. In Taiwan, service learning had been designed as compulsory programs for higher education with a sound mission to integrate pedagogy with social service; enhance youth civic engagement. With the focus of educating and mobilizing civic engagements, we compare the different achievement of service learning programs in Taiwan’s catholic universities; extract the motivations of students for clarifying the barrier between governmental policy makers, academic administrators, student volunteers, and the communities. This study had been we applied semi-structured case-study method that is blended with survey, factory analysis; filter the influential factors toward a positive civic education. When service learning programs are entitled with social purposes; self-driven innovations, norms, mutual trust, and social problem solving actions, that will be moved from an individual level toward a collective one.
Seeking for the collective engagement, the administrators upgrade service learning by providing resources with encouragement, it is not only an experiential pedagogy, but a bridge and bond to social engagement with civicness. With the hope of the Ministry of Education in Taiwan, we research on the process of social civilization, target on the university students who participate service learning curriculums; with the intention of constructing the adequate civic education, we evaluate service learning from the resources allocation, curriculum design, and emphasis under Taiwan’s societal context. Reflecting to the administrative policy, the intention of seeking educational reform is clear.
