[摘要] :
This paper delves into the multifaceted landscape of English Medium Instruction (EMI) in Taiwanese higher education, with a particular focus on the implications of the 2030 Bi-Lingual Policy launched by the Ministry of Education. This visionary policy seeks to internationalize Taiwan's higher education system, drawing international students and elevating domestic students' English proficiency to enhance global competitiveness. Notably, despite substantial government backing, recent research has uncovered a spectrum of perspectives among stakeholders, including educators and students, concerning the policy's implementation. This study takes a closer look at a prominent language university in Taiwan, serving as a bilingual educational hub and offering unique insights into EMI's challenges and opportunities. This study specifically explored feedback from content lecturers who underwent EMI training, shedding light on their experiences and perspectives, and how these contribute to the broader understanding of EMI's role in Taiwan's higher education landscape. In response to these findings, a structured EMI professional development program tailored to the Taiwanese context is proposed. This program is expected to equip educators with the necessary tools and strategies to navigate the diverse EMI landscape effectively, fostering successful EMI implementation. This research offers a comprehensive overview of EMI within Taiwan's higher education system, emphasizing the critical role of professional development in ensuring its success while acknowledging the intricate dynamics at play.
