This study describes how two educational games, traditional memory chess board and online memory game, were created in order to increase student vocabulary, specially French compound words gain, and improve interaction.
In order to create two traditional chess boards, an exhaustive list of 72 compound nouns was established (verb-noun combination connected by a hypen). The first chess board was adapted in an online memory game. This kind of game is considered as a really easy and simple learning tool, obviously ranking among individual games. But the conception of this game design and rules do not provide individual environment learning. For that reason, the both games were designed to be played with a group of three to five more students. Games as play and game activities were not only designed to help students improve their memory skills, but also to develop interactive and competitive learning environment.
The findings of the study are expected to provide the teachers with some suggestions for game design, pedagogical plan and instructions.
