Social entrepreneurship refers to entrepreneuring activities that are arising from social benefits to address social problem in term of business logics. This research reports the social entrepreneurship of ShihAn community in ShihAn village, Tainan, Taiwan to study the triggers of social entrepreneurship, and social value it created.
ShinAn village is a typical rural community in south Taiwan. The high rate of outward migration and aging of population become serious problems in rural area. To improve the critical problems, the founder of ShihAn cooperative association set in action with a series of warfare services, such as medical service on site, free medical ambulance, shared dinner for elder resident. These efforts are benefited from governmental subsidies. The outcomes also have received many awards. However, they understood that it is necessary to commit more resources self for community sustainable development. After a few meetings with elder villagers, they determined to set up ShinAn Rice cooperation and develop ShigAn Rice brand of non-poisonous rice for both community economy and community sustainable development. Their efforts make dream coming true.
We interview founder, committee of the association, farmers, villagers, and outward migration. This study also collects secondary data for triangulation, such as financial reports, minute, proposals of ShinAn community and cooperation association, leaflet, and interviews appeared in news and media.
This study tries to explore the story of Social Value and social impact to answer following questions: triggers and business model of social entrepreneurship? Future research and Practical implication will be proposed.
