In 2015, UNESCO’s Education 2030 project released its set of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which identify environmental, economic, and societal areas of concern. In Taiwan, most attempts at developing education for sustainable development (ESD) involve teaching environmental outcomes. This paper, however, presents efforts in the primary school EFL classroom to address SDG 12: Ensure Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns by improving concept understanding as well as English language use pertinent to the concept. Lesson ideas are presented which draw upon cultural objects, including an introduction to the concept through audiovisual elements and discussion, and subsequent activities. Semi-structured interviews demonstrated that students had enthusiasm and a better understanding for the topic, and pre- and post-activity vocabulary tests showed an expansion of simple English economic vocabulary pertinent to SDG 12.
