Abstract
Sport offers a vehicle for representing a set of skills; it also enhances individual’s
personal qualities, such as, aggressiveness, collaboration, dedication, self-control and
developing responsibility. The term “masculinity” on other hand, can also fully describe
aforementioned personalities and has a strong association with sports. The fact that sports
and masculinity are closely linked has its historical consequences as well as social factors; in
this case, both of the attributions help to cultivate personal growth. However, by simply
considering sports and masculinity share a great amount of similarities can be viewed as an
example of overgeneralized, hence confines itself to the phase-diversity concept. Based on the
connection between sports and masculinity, this study proposes three distinct notions which
are representation of multiple traits, the diversities of body expressions and strategy-oriented
differentiations. Moreover, the similarities and dissimilarities between sports and masculinity
create a great range of flexibility which also qualifies what so-called “family resemblance”.

key words: masculinity, family resemblance
