[英文摘要] :
Peer Leadership: A 3L Intensive English Camp for EFL Teenagers
Abstract
This study aims to investigate the impact of a three-day intensive English peer leadership camp on 43 English as foreign language teenage participants at a catholic language institute located in southern Taiwan whose motto is serviam (Latin for “I will serve”). In addition to the 43 first year junior college (with most of them from the honor program) students as participants, involved in the camp were eight senior leaders with six as role models serving as lecturers and teaching assistants and two university freshmen as secretaries. The camp design focused on the university’s 3L slogan—“language’, ‘life’, and ‘leadership’, providing participants an optimal language learning environment and experience. Thus, leadership is the core, language is the medium as well as content, and life is the theme centering on self-discovery, communication skills, creativity, time management, team building, attitude and problem solving. Data on participants’ daily questionnaires and leaders’ reflections were collected. The results indicate that participants tended to bring new ideas and work cooperatively in dealing with challenging tasks, such as group performance with given prompts. Productive outcome as such is crucial to empower potential young leaders in solving problems and in working with appropriate attitude. The conclusion of this study highlighted the implication of peer leadership application in English language learning for further research direction.
