The present study aims at exploring the pragmatics of most frequently used Mandarin Chinese interjections. Based on the Guidelines for CLT Materials Development (國際漢語教材編寫指南), a large teaching materials corpus established by the Confucius Institute Headquarters, this study will illustrate and discuss the contexts in which interjections should be used and their communicative functions. In addition, appropriate teaching and learning processes for interjections from the viewpoints of teachers and learners will also be discussed. It is hoped that the results of this study can facilitate realizing a teaching philosophy and system that can implement a pragmatic framework in teaching practices. (Wu, 2009)
