What do parents and teachers need to know about high school students?
When I was in ninth grade, I was worried about my future. I was wondering whether I should apply to a traditional high school or to a junior college, so I consoled my homeroom teacher and my parents. They analyzed the pros and cons of both alternatives, and I made the decision of attending junior college with the help of them. Because of this experience, I realized I would always console my parents and teachers when I reach a pivotal moment in my life.
Teenagers always have many worries and decisions to make everyday. However, sometimes they are not mature enough, and lack of life experiences to make the right alternative. Therefore, their parents and teachers play a vital role in helping high school students succeed. Even though they are seeking independence, parental guidance is crucial. Here are some things I believe parents and teachers need to know about high school students.
First, I think parents should make more time to talk to them. Because many teens spend most of the day outside their home, staying connected with them can be challenging for parents. While activities at school, new interests, and expanding social circles are central to their lives, parents are still their anchors for providing love, guidance, and support.
Second, in terms of managing stress, there’s so much academic pressure for high school students, so their parents should help them stay healthy by making sure they get enough sleep, exercise and downtime. It is important for parents to prioritize sleep, and that means limiting screentime. For example, no electronics in the bedroom after 11 o’clock.

Third, because teenagers are on the verge of becoming adults, teachers should encourage them to make more of their own decisions, such as choosing classes, selecting clubs, and learning to manage their time. In addition, teachers should also encourage them to take on leadership roles in their classes, which helps them become more independent.

Lastly, teachers should allow them to make some minor mistakes. In doing so, they can find the balance between academics, play and other commitments. The high school years are an adjustment period where they are figuring out who they are, and what their passions are. So I suggest their parents and teachers to be patient, and let them figure it out on their own.

In conclusion, teenagers have a lot to deal with during the high school years, such as managing stress, becoming more independent, and figuring their lives out, but their parents and teachers can always be there for them by staying connected. Therefore, it is important for them to remind high school students that help is always available.
